Self Crosslinking PUD

Self-crosslinking dispersion systems are one-component polyurethane dispersions generally used in coating applications. The disadvantage of the two-component system is the added cross-linker. Added cross-linkers shorten the pot life of the product and after a certain period of time, the products become unusable. It provides a long pot life as there is no need for the addition of cross-linker in selfcrosslinked polyurethane dispersion systems.

Cross-linking in the dispersion creates an impenetrable barrier for water and chemicals. It also provides high scratch resistance and adhesion. Cross-linkers make the structure more rigid. However, the film formed must be rigid-elastic. Non-elastic films have low impact resistance and this causes the resulting film to crack or break upon impact.
